| Biography |
Excarnation took form in 2001 with the two founding members being Mark Britton (keyboards and vocals) and Chris Williamson (guitars and bass). Within a year their incredibly necro self-titled debut album was released through Odium Records. The introductory track to this album, Old Religion, can be downloaded here. The album can be ordered through Odium records: www.odium.org.uk
After the release of ‘Excarnation’ the 'Winter Burial' MCD was recorded and self-released. A year of stagnation ensued due to Mark Britton leaving the band's home town of Kenilworth but Excarnation was reborn in the Summer of 2003 with a full live line-up now featuring Adam Yarnall on the drums and Adam Moore on the bass.
In 2003 and 2004 Excarnation had an abundance of successful live performances supporting the likes of Unsanctum and Diamanthian and headlining in some local shows. In the spring of 2004 ‘The Ruined Glory of Elizabethan England’ was recorded but only the desk-mix was released due to the mixed version being a complete mess. The summer of 2004 saw the recording and self-release of the excellent Ancient Monuments EP. Two of the tracks on this release were re-recordings of earlier work, The Seventh Demon being one such track. Ancient Monuments shows a change in direction for Excarnation - there is now more technicality and power but still the necro production and dark atmospheres that Excarnation have become renowned for.
Sadly, Excarnation ceased to exist as of last year but who knows what the future may bring. Ethereal Woods have now emerged from the ashes of Excarnation to take Kenilworthian black metal into the future. |
