| Biography |
It was in the golden decade of the Black Metal, between the years of 1996 and 1997, when I met Domminus, through my brother (Misanthrope). I remember that, until then, in my world, the heaviest sound I knew was Sepultura and the obscurest one was, certainty, Black Sabbath. And it was at this moment that a door for a new universe of blackness, sarcasm and self improvement was opened in front of me. I was hearing Black Metal for the first time.
Domminus had (and still it has) an impressive Black Metal discography. He used to teach the piano and with the money earned he bought many albums that could only be imported, since here in Brazil deliverers, recorders and distros were rare and the access to them was restricted.
Domminus had, in his house, a very modest home studio with a battery Pearl, a few national Guitars, microphones, some Amps and a Yamaha synthesizer. I did not imagine that it was possible to record music of reasonable quality outside of a studio. It was actually having my first contacts with the Underground. In that age I was just an enthusiastic fan of the Metal and believed that it was only featured in great studios with great producers.
Inside that home studio, I attended the birth of the Mircalla, band of Domminus, of which my brother also participated, in 1999. For many years I already had been friend of Males Maleficarum who also was in the metal scene for some years. We followed the rehearsals of Mircalla believing in the possibility of one day we could also be able to create something that would attest with our ideas.
In the end of 2000 I went to the house of Males Maleficarum and we decided to create our project that would firstly call Sahell.
But the great magic happened when I decided to hear with much attention the song The Woodwoman of the Blood on Ice Bathorys album. That described woman, who did not leave footprints on the snow, those so many mysterious made me change the name of the project to Temhble Jleca (Black Forests, in Russian). It was then that we wrote a few songs, amongst them Temhble Jleca and Foggy Lands.
In 2001 I took the vocal and guitars while Males Maleficarum took the basses together with Domminus who was invited to make the drums. And then we started to rehearse. In the end of the year, Maleficarum needed to abandon the project for personal reasons and I saw myself forced to forget the project for a good time since Temhble Jleca I was not a production that belonged only to me.
And in this exactly year, Domminus presented me to some national contacts and even to warriors from outside of the country to whom I started to correspond. It was then that I got into the Underground movement going to gigs, sharing ideas, materials and attitudes.
All that work together with Males Maleficarum was practically lost. Just in 2003 I retook the spirits to continue working in this project. In colloquy with Males Melficarum the project was all delivered to my cares and Domminus helped me with the writings of the demo cover. During the writings some things had changed in the project and, amongst them, the name that became, finally, Thorny Woods.
Domminus was the great partner in this history therefore he recreated the Logotype (that already it was modified some times), helped me with the musical part, played drums and basses, assisted in the design of cover of the demo and then he became permanent member of Thorny Woods (more than deserved, dont you think?).
To record for the first time was such an experience. We took three months under the following circumstances: the recording place did not have an appropriate acoustic isolation, what made the drum tests at the rehearsal place and Domminus adjusting the sound equalization using the PC on his bedroom; we did not use a pedal of distortion in the guitar, hence while I played the distortion was being applied by the recording software; and I remember the day where I was to record the vocal cause the division of the lyrics was made there, at the moment of the recordings.
End of 2003, Amongstrees... was ready to be distributed among the warriors of the universe. It was a success, as it was depleted in less than 1 year.
In 2004 the proposals of shows had appeared, as well as Agamemnom (Mircalla) joined us to assume the guitars.
With Agamemnom in the band, new compositions are created as De Nihilo Nihil Fit and No Matter and the spirits of the group had been renewed. I took the vocal and basses to make some celebrations in the region with Domminus in the drums and Agamemnom in the guitars.
In a certain day, in the middle of September/October of 2004, Azagthoth entered in contact with us with the intention to reissue Amongstrees... in 666 copies and new cover. We accepted the proposal and in this time the demo-tape was sent to the 4 corners of the world. We received compliments from people of Poland, Portugal, the Ukraine, U.S.A., Israel, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, England, Germany and so many others.
2005 comes with new changes and perspectives. In the start of January, Males Maleficarum returned to the band as Dungortheb and entered in studio for the recording of a Rehearsal.
Some months later Agamemnom moved far away to the other extremity of the country and we lost our guitarist. Little time later, one more time, Dunggotheb abandoned the band and Thorny Woods came back to its formation with me and Domminus only.
Give up now? Never! We invited Baco, an excellent guitarist who lived in our city and had played in some bands of death/black of São Paulo. As soon as he entered we started preparing ourselves for the writing of a more mature and innovative material. During some months we kept on rehearsing and preparing to enter studio to record Dendro Dreams. We started to record in the end of September and remained recording until the following year, in July of 2006.
Well, this time things were different, with professional environment and the help of the sound technician Paulo Celani we recorded Dendro Dreams with equipment of high quality (recording software: Pro Tools HD2 Accel, interface Digidesign 96 K and pres: Avalon, Facusrite, Bellari and Marshall).
The recorded material still counted on the special participation of Dungortheb that, with his irreverent vocals, gave a special touch to our compositions leaving them more obscure and unique.
In August of 2006, we started to mix the material and, in the following month, the promo Lobrego Macilento Preludio was released and distributed over the Internet. November of 2006. Dendro Dreams is finished while we continue in negotiations with possible Labels interested in our proposal.
